I just read a story this morning that one of the more decorated pitching instructors in Southern California, Mike Smith, has been arrested for sexual mis-conduct to one or more minor girls.  Most people in the youth softball world in So Cal know of Mike as he has provided lessons for over 30 years to many, many DI pitchers.  This is a pretty shocking development.

Please note that there are two Mike Smiths in the SoCal travelball world.
This story is NOT about the Mike Smith who is the coach for the SoCal Athletics, Chino HS, and a hitting instructor in the Corona/Chino area.

Whatever that means.
I was just trying to clarify since some people have been getting the two mixed up.

Those in the area may remember that Mike Smith, was accuse of this a couple years back, about the time he moved into the EM facility. Mike accused the former facility owner of starting this alleged rumor, because he was leaving their facility and going to EM.
To show the public that he wasn't hiding, Mike Smith immediately went on a publicity tour, showing up at tournaments and speaking to just about anyone who would listen, about these accusations being false and retaliatory in nature.
He must have been convincing, because business continued as normal - at least until now.
If I remember correctly, wasn't he coaching with the Minors Gold Organization.

Seems to me that a person is innocent until proven guility.  Not sure what the purpose in posting this was in the first place.  Don't know the guy from Adam, but would like to believe that I would'nt be the subject of Enquirer like gossip if I were accused.........

Someone being arrested for possible sexual abuse is not gossip, it's news.  I have no idea if this Mike Smith is guilty or not, but I do know he was arrested and is being held on the charges.  If this had happened to a college coach, is this not a place to post it?

I think people understand what is at stake.  A guy is accused of awful acts w/minor. If true, people will view him as a monster and any good he did in the past will be tainted. If false, this guy will go through a living hell.....for the rest of his life.

Think you were referencing the post that noted Smith had been accussed of this in the past. Probably something a judge wouln't let a jury hear but many people on this board have daughters who are in southern California.  It probably hits them a bit harder. Maybe they want to know if they were oblivious to it or how to keep communication open between themselves and their children....so that their kids would come to them if anyone treated them in this manner.

In the area of child abuse where there is an arrest with a large bail amount you can bet that they have evidence because the DA already has decided to file.  The case with the evidence has already gone to the DA before the arrest. They are not going to arrest unless they think the perpetrator is guilty and that they have enough evidence to win a conviction in court.  Just sayin
